When I head out to the desert by car, on the 10 freeway heading east from Los Angeles, I pass the Palm Springs exit which was once the only exit I knew to take out there, and use the sign for Other Desert Cities to guide me onto the ramp for Highway 62, alongside a grid of windmills.
